How The Sausage is Made

Community

We make our class. Period. Full stop. You can not approach learning as a series of tasks one must complete. You must want it. Only way it works...and when you really want it, you share with others. We call this learning.

We have three parts to our community. Most importantly you join us from your domain. You share what you learn from a website you control.

You first come to check this website. Here you can find all the content and important annoucements. You can find the code of conduct, the schedule of events, and all the reading materials.

Then you have Slack. That's our private clubhouse. We can act as critical friends, share inside jokes, and direct message partners. RSS Bots will pull in all our posts. We will have channels for each module. No need to share your reflections and post just come and hang out.

Finally you may choose to join us on Twitter. This is not required. Those that do participate will syndicate their post to Twitter from their own blogs. You can control your content and use Twitter as our broadcast channel. Share the cool stuff you make with the hashtag #edu522. More importantly you may choose to connect to other educators.

Tasks

Daily Tasks

Point of PonderanceA daily point of ponderance will be posted. You must make something that addresses the question or prompt. Sometimes you will be asked to write, others to draw. Not sure. You do not have to complete all daily tasks but you get one MacBuck per dailypost.

Person with the most MacBuck's by end of class gets the 100% the grades will then fall in order of MacBuck ranking.

Hanging Out In this class community is the content. You need to have a daily prescence in the Stream, on the blogosphere and/or on Twitter. In fact we reward each other as community members. When somebody does soemthing for us or someone else give them a thumbs up in Slack. Each thumbs up earns one MacBuck. Person with the most MacBucks at end of class gets 100% participation grade and everyone else falls on a scale from there.

Projects-Choose Two

Digital Detoxing and Critical Analysis of Social Media

Do an initial inventory of your apps and notifications. Decide on how you will scal eback, Reflect on the changes or Do a narrative journal about each time you use your phone. I would start with a Tally Mark app, or better yet a piece of paper.

Bookmark a reading list. Use the bookmark post-kind. Use effective tags to help others. Find articles on the benefits and dangers of using social media.

Take a position. Support this position in all your design, copy and media.

Learn Something New

Choose something you have never done before but always wanted to learn. It maybe a new song, or heck a new instrument. Maybe a recipe or excercise.

Develop a learning list. Bookmark your posts. Then go learn. Post reflections as you work on it.

Teach Something New

Choose a task you want to teach in school. Make a series of media to help. This could be a screencast, a series of graphic organziers, podcasts, a website.

Your goal is to teach something new.

Reflect on the instructional design choices you made.

Make a Hoax Website

Design your about me page to make your most credible self as a teacher. Then create a hoax website for a fake product or event. Make it credible.

Reflect on what you did on backstage blog. Consider the markers of credbility you used.

The Final-Everyone Complete

Take the course template made on Glitch and create a course for something you teach. You only need the home page and 1-2 modules.
